A lively group of students and parents gathered on Wednesday evening, March 14th to participate in a hands-on cooking class led by Lisa Suriano, Founder of Veggiecation, a nutrition education program for children. Together students and parents learned about the health benefits of many super veggies and fruits including kale, parsley, Granny Smith apples, bananas, and lemons. The children participated in preparing three different recipes: Celery, Grape and Apple Salad, Lemon-Parsley Pesto, and a Kale and Banana Smoothie. Not everyone liked every recipe, but everyone enjoyed learning and cooking together! For recipes and more information, visit Veggiecation.com.
An idea germinated from a grant from Slow Food of NNJ as an initiative to combat childhood obesity and to inspire environmental education, led to view an unutilized courtyard as a classroom. We are immensely grateful to all generous supporters, donors, who donated time, talent, resources, cash, gifts or something else. All selflessly gave to benefit and to inspire sustainability. The School With Heart looks forward to nurturing more tasty crops and inquisitive young minds in the coming seasons.
